LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity University extended its winning streak to nine games as the Tigers went a perfect 5-0 on the week, including going 3-0 against SCAC competition. Trinity sits alone atop the league standings at 7-0 and holds a 19-10 overall record.
AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College (3-20, 0-3 SCAC) dropped five
games during the week, including three to Trinity. The Kangaroos
fell to LeTourneau, 4-3 and 10-4 before coming up short against
Trinity by scores of 4-0, 3-0 and 7-1. Austin College returns to
action on Wednesday, April 3 when the Kangaroos host Texas-Dallas
for a double-header. The ‘Roos will then travel to
Shreveport, La. for four games with SCAC opponent
Centenary.
Centenary (2-22, 1-3 SCAC) had the week off. The Ladies
return to action on April 3 when they host LSU-Shreveport for a
double-header beginning at 5 p.m. Centenary will then host a four
game SCAC series with Austin College on April 6-7.
Dallas (1-17, 0-4 SCAC) was idle this past
week. The Crusaders will head to Georgetown, Texas, to combat
Southwestern University this weekend -- (Saturday, 1 p.m. 2x7;
Sunday 12 p.m. 2x7).
Southwestern faced off against the Yellow Jackets from
Howard Payne and managed to successfully win both games. The first
game of the day, Southwestern came out early in the first inning to
take the lead with a run, and continued to put 3 more across
throughout the rest of the game and held HPU scoreless until the
7th. During the last inning Howard Payne managed to produce 2 runs
but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Pirates. In game 2, HPU
jumped out with the first run of the game in the first inning. The
Pirates matched that run in the 2nd and took the lead in the 3rd
with another run. The Jackets tied it upin the 5th. Southwestern
added 2 runs in the 6th that managed to put it out of reach
for Howard Payne. HPU scored once more in the 7th, but the final
score was 4-3 Southwestern.
Trinity was 5-0 over the past week, sweeping a
doubleheader from Midland University on Wednesday, then sweeping
three SCAC road games at Austin College over the weekend. The
Tigers are 19-10 this season and 7-0 in conference play, and have
won a season-best nine consecutive games. Trinity rallied with two
runs in the bottom of the seventh of the opening game against
Midland to earn a 4-3 win, then cruised to an 8-2 win in game two.
Against Austin, the Tigers started with a pair of shutout victories
(4-0 and 3-0), followed by a 7-1 win in Saturday’s series
finale. Brooke Sanchez tied two Tiger records and broke another in
the finale against Austin on Saturday. She scored four runs to tie
the single game record that she also tied against Dallas on March
24. Sanchez also went 5-5 to tie the Trinity record for hits in a
game, becoming the fourth Tiger player ever to tally five hits in a
game. With the four runs, she also passes Jamie Williams (2008) for
the Trinity single season record in runs, scoring her 41st of the
year. In its only games of the week, Trinity will face the
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a non-conference doubleheader
on Tuesday evening. The Tigers resume action on April 13-14 in a
four-game SCAC series at home against Centenary College.
