LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sanio Dizdarevic of Texas Lutheran University and Karen Ramirez of Southwestern University have been selected as the SCAC Male and Female Character & Community Student-Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Sunday, March 23.
The SCAC Character & Community award was created in 2009 to
honor and recognize the efforts of the
extraordinary student-athletes of the conference who not
only excel athletically on the field, course, court, pool or
track, but also by serving their campus and community.

SANIO DIZDAREVIC OF TEXAS LUTHERAN
UNIVERSITY, a junior on the men's tennis team,
has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, March 23,
2014.
Dizdarevic is a three-year letterman for the Bulldogs and has
played at the No. 1 singles position for the majority of his three
seasons on the team. He also plays in the doubles lineup and has
played No. 1 doubles in 2013-14.
Dizdarevic holds a 3.34 GPA and has been active with his team
in community service projects. He has volunteered alongside his
teammates with the TLU Mobile Food Pantry to provide food for the
community's hungry. He has also volunteered on TLU's two
annual service days - "Day of the Dogs" and "Hot DAWGS". On these
service days, he has helped with community clean-up and repair at a
local church.
Dizdarevic, a Kinesiology Major, is a member of the TLU Kinesiology
Club.
KAREN RAMIREZ OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a
senior shortstop on the Pirates' softball team, has been selected
the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending March 23, 2014.
A member of Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society and Kappa Delta
Chi,Ramirez is a Spanish and English tutor.
She is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and
is the Secretary for the 2013-14 academic year.
Away form campus, Ramirez interned for
the Williamson County Museum in the fall of 2013, developing lesson
plans and activities for the new World War II Traveling Trunk
exhibition, organized activities for Saturdays of Hands-on History
and instructed over 300 students during Pioneer Days.
She also interned at the Dr. Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise
Institute and is a game day worker for the Athletics Department and
works as a SIRA official.
This past fall, Ramirez was an EFLEP
Spanish Student Teacher at Pickett Elementary, creating lesson
plans and activities for third and fourth graders.
