GAME ONE
Trinity 9, Southwestern 2
The Trinity University Tiger softball team advanced to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament final with a 9-2 win over Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon. Box Score
Trinity (27-14) fell behind early in the game, as Southwestern posted two runs in the top of the first inning. The Tigers were held scoreless until the fourth inning, and it was then that the offense came to life in a big way. Trinity scored five runs in the frame, then followed that up with a four-run fifth inning to take full control of the game.
Sydney Friday earned her 12th victory of the season, allowing two runs on four hits, and striking out three batters. Just one of the runs she gave up was earned, and two of the four hits she yielded came in that opening frame.
Chrissy Armstrong was 2-4 with three RBI to pace the offense, while Emily Fleischman also had a strong day with two hits, two runs, and two RBI. Lindsay Weyand and Brittany Haby scored two runs each.
Trinity will face Southwestern again in tomorrow's SCAC Championship, though the Tigers need to win just one of two possible games to earn the conference title.
GAME TWO
Austin College 12, Dallas 4
Austin College needed just five innings to dispatch the host school, the University of Dallas, in Saturday's 12-4 elimination contest. Box Score
Jessica Baker was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs to lead the 'Roos to victory. Charlotte Trudell was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored and Briana Hernandez chipped in with a home run for two RBIs and two runs scored.
Sam Mutulis went the distance, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings of work. Nicole Frazier picked up the loss for the Crusaders.
Dallas was led by Brittany Castro, who had two hits in two trips to the plate, including a two run-scoring doubles.
Austin (11-29) advances to play Southwestern University in the tournament's next elimination contest. Dallas ends its season at 6-31.
GAME THREE
Southwestern 10, Austin College 0
For the first time since winning the championship in 2010, Southwestern University advanced to the title game of the SCAC softball tournament, defeating Austin College 10-0 in five innings. Box Score
Second baseman Stacy Rosengren had a monster game for the Pirates, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and six RBIs including a 2-run double in the 1st inning and a grand slam in the 2nd inning.
In three tournament games, Rosengren is 8-for-10 with two home runs, five runs scored and nine runs driven in.
Ashleigh Scott (3-for-3) and Tessa Galloway (2-for-2) were perfect at the plate as the Pirates tallied 12 hits to earn the mercy rule victory.
SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year, Kelsey Kingston, earned the victory for Southwestern with six strikeouts and just three hits allowed in five shutout innings.
The Pirates (32-11) advance to the SCAC title game where they will play top-seeded Trinity at Noon CT, who defeated Southwestern 9-2 earlier in the day. Austin College ends the 2013 campaign with a 11-30 mark.
Southwestern will need a victory in the Noon game to force a second and deciding game.
