TYLER, Texas - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas stayed alive in the 2013 Tyler Regional, knocking out Southwestern in the elimination game 7-5. In the win, freshman third baseman Mikayla O'neal went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to help fuel CMS to the win. Box Score | Photos | NCAA Regional Website
Southwestern got the scoring started in the fourth inning, with Caroline Young starting things off with a RBI single.
The Pirates would add three more run on three more singles, making the score 4-0 heading to the top of the fifth inning.
Claremont (33-12) would answer back quickly, scoring four runs of its own to tie the game.
Katie Savard singled in a run to start the scoring, followed by a Marie Bradvica single that scored Harmony Palmer.
O'neal would then tie the score with a huge two-run double, scoring Bradvica and Savard, making the score 4-4.
The Athenas would add two more runs in the sixth on a Palmer double and a Carlene Roberts single, extending the lead to 6-4.
After the Pirates (34-13) added a run in the sixth on an Ashleigh Scott single, the Athenas would put the game away with a Palmer RBI-double to left, bringing the score to 7-5.
Starting pitcher Hayley Schultz picked up the win in game four, going seven innings while Palmer and O'neal added two hits apiece.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will now await the loser of the East Texas Baptist-Redlands matchup for a 4 p.m. Saturday showdown.
