Southwestern's Ramirez Heads Four SCAC NFCA All-Region Selections

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Headlined by Second Team All-Region selection junior shortstop Karen Ramirez of Southwestern University, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) placed four student athletes on the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Region teams. Prior to the beginning of the NCAA regional playoffs, Ramirez (pictured above right) had accumulated a .401 batting average, including a league-high and SCAC single-season record 23 doubles. She also has 61 hits (second in the SCAC) and 39 RBIs (fourth in the SCAC). Ramirez was the only SCAC player to earn All-West Region Second Team honors.

Southwestern University placed a league-high three players on the All-Region teams. In addition to Ramirez, junior outfielder Tessa Galloway and senior catcher Abigail O'Connor were Third Team at-large selections.

Junior utility player Jessica Baker of Austin College was also a Third Team at-large selection.
