Marmara had a pair of big games to push the Eagles to a 2-0 record as he averaged 23.5 points and hit 70 percent from the field. Marmara posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds in a conference-opening road win against Centenary. Marmara hit both of his three-point attempts and also had two steals on the defensive end. Marmara followed that performance with a 27-point effort in a win against Dallas Christian. Marmara hit four three-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds. For the week, Marmama went 6-of-8 (75%) from the three-point line.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Kidus Getenet of Austin College had an outstanding week as the 'Roos went 1-1, averaging 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals-per-game while shooting 48.3 percent from the field. Getenet scored 21 in a narrow loss at Dallas to open the weekend, and followed that up with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists in a big home win over Howard Payne. Senior forward Jack Boyle of Dallas was electric lifting the Crusaders to an SCAC opening win over Austin College, 65-62, at home last Friday night. Boyle produced a triple double, scoring 16 points, grabbing 19 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists. He also added two blocks and had helped Dallas produce its best start through seven games (5-2) since the 2017-18 season. Senior guard Kino Thompson of McMurry averaged 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in a pair of contests last week for the War Hawks. Sophomore forward Charles Gitonga of St. Thomas delivered efficient and impactful performances last week, averaging 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game across two starts as the Celts went 1-1 in non-conference action, highlighted by a 35-point win over ETBU. He shot an impressive 66.7 percent from the field, a perfect 100 percent from both three-point range (2-2) and the free-throw line (3-3). Junior guard Mason Wallace of Texas Lutheran averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a pair of contests last week for the Bulldogs.
