Trinity Earns 19th Consecutive SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

GARLAND, Texas - Trinity University cruised to its 19th consecutive conference title at the 2022 SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship which wrapped up Saturday evening at the Garland ISD Natatorium. Trinity finished with 1,079 points while Southwestern University was second with 776 points and Colorado College was third with 681. Rounding out the standings, Centenary College finished fourth with 363 points, Austin College was fifth with 314 points, University of the Ozarks finished sixth with 288 points, and McMurry University finished seventh with 35 points.

Jesse Stovall of Southwestern was named the Swimmer-of-the-Meet. She earned SCAC titles in the 200 free relay, 50 free, 100 fly, and 100 free. She was second in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, and the 400 free relay while finishing in third in the 800 free relay. 

Diver-of-the-Meet honors went to Katarina Partalas who won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. She became the sixth diver in SCAC history to sweep both boards in consecutive years, and the first to accomplish the feat since 2016-2017. 

The Southwestern University staff - led by 11th-year head coach Jon Duncan, along with head diving coach Jake Foust, and assistant coach Sarah James - earned SCAC Women's Coaching Staff-of-the-Year honors. The award marked just the second time and first since 2009 that the program has been so honored.

Partalas took home top honors in the 1-meter competition as she tallied a score of 475.85 finishing ahead of Colorado College's Emma Krasemann who took second with a score of 429.80. In winning, Partalas became the fourth diver to win the event three consecutive years and the first since Trinity's Sarah Kate Mrkonich did so from 2015-2017. Krasemann's teammate Petyon Classon was third with a mark of 418.70. Alexis Radhakrishnan of Trinity was fourth with a mark of 415.80, Brooklyn Fuscone of Trinity took home fifth with a score of 408.15. Gabi Fulk of Trinity was sixth (390.00), Trinity's Tori Nguyen was seventh (378.60). Colorado College's Lauryn Pfrommer-Pease was eighth scoring 324.70 points, Macy Phillips of the University of the Ozarks was ninth with a score of 316.70 and Southwestern's Sydney Lo was 10th with a tally of 217.15. Austin College's Liberty Chanin earned a gold-medal winning time in the 1650 free as she touched the wall in 17:42.90. She became the first Kangaroo to win the event in program history and represented the fourth different school in the past four years to win the mile. Trinity’s Blythe Iverson was second with a time of 17:54.05 while Centenary’s Maddie Vacula rouned out the top-three with a mark of 17:56.27. 1,650-Yard Freestyle Interview

Mabel Fowler won her fourth consecutive 200 back with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 2:01.85, finishing ahead of Southwestern’s Maysen Hauck who clocked a time of 2:06.20. Centenary’s Brianna Serret was third with a time of 2:10.00. 200-Yard Backstroke Interview

Stovall took top billing in the 100 free with a top time of 50.97, which earned her a ‘B’ cut time. The win was her fourth straight in the event. Trinity’s Emma Hagan was second touching the wall in 51.09 which yielded a ‘B’ cut time as well. Finishing in third was Morgen Reyna of Trinity with a time of 51.86. 100-Yard Freestyle Interview

The 200 breast saw Trinity Tigers take the top two spots as Jadyn Trahan was first with a time of 2:21.98 while Josie Gillentine was second in 2:25.05. It marked Trinity’s first win in the event since Kara Beauchamp took gold in 2016. Austin College’s Samantha Thiele was third, touching the wall in 2:27.55. 200-Yard Breaststroke Interview

History was made in the 200 fly as Colorado College’s Kate Brush established a new SCAC record when she touched the wall in 2:03.96. The mark broke DePawu’s Amanda Stier’s previous mark of 2:05.40 in the prelims back in 2009. Brush also earned a ‘B’ cut time as well. Finishing second was Trinity’s Caroline Myers who touched the wall in 2:08.24. Molly Spano of Southwestern was third with a time of 2:14.73. 200-Yard Butterfly Interview

The Trinity Tigers capped off a dominant championship week as they earned the program’s sixth consecutive win in the 400 free relay. The team of Mable Fowler, Reyna, Meghan Magill, and Hagan touched the wall in SCAC record and ‘B’ cut time of 3:26.61. Finishing in second was Southwestern’s team of Emma Frey, Zoe Garcia, Delaney Anthony, and Stovall who clocked in at 3:28.55. Their time earned the group a ‘B’ cut time as well. Rounding out the All-SCAC performers was Colorado College’s quartet of Brush, Annie Bowens, Peyton Wright, and Emma Phillips who secured a time of 3:36.17.

Notes: A total of eight SCAC records were set during the week including the 200 medley relay, 800 free relay, 200 free relay, 50 free, 200 free, 400 medley relay, 200 fly, and 400 free relay. In addition to the eight records, SCAC swimmers tallied 14 NCAA 'B' cut times.
