ADDY TREMIE OF CENTENARY COLLEGE a sophomore guard on the women's basketball team from Sulphur, La., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning February 7.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Tremie is always on the move, but wherever you might find her one thing will always be the same – she will have a smile on her face.

Tremie, the sharp-shooting sophomore from Sulphur, La., is most happy in one of her favorite spots, on her home court in the Gold Dome in Shreveport playing the game she loves. But, like any busy collegiate student-athlete, Tremie is also hard at work in the classroom or on campus or in the community making an impact on others’ lives while at the same time enriching her own.

“Balancing being both a student and a college athlete requires very good time management,” said Tremie. I always set up a schedule every night for the next day to make sure I am putting my priorities first before any outside factors. If I can’t be found in my room studying then the next spot to look for me is in the gym. “

Tremie, the SCAC Co-Newcomer of the Year last season as a freshman, also earned a spot on the 2020-21 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State Women's Basketball Team, garnering Honorable-Mention honors. She finished her rookie season averaging 15.7 PPG, third-best in the conference, and reached double figures eight times in nine games in the COVID-shortened season.

Tremie has picked up right where she left off last season as she is averaging 11.4 PPG and 7.0 rebounds per game and has reached double figures 11 times in 20 games this season. She has scored 20 or more points four times this season highlighted by a career-high 25 versus Trinity in December. Tremie currently ranks in the top 15 in the SCAC in both scoring and rebounding as well as 3-point FG %, and in the top 10 in 3-point FG’s made and defensive rebounds. She also leads the conference in minutes played, averaging 36.9/game and has played all 40 minutes of a game six times this season, four times in conference play.

The sport of basketball is not just a sport,” said Tremie. “There are so many life lessons that come with the challenges of the game that are reflected in my everyday life and future life. Coaches are not just teaching you how to play the game, there is a deeper meaning to it and I use those things to continue to grow as a person. A few things the sport of basketball has helped me with on and off the court are patience, work ethic, attention to detail, leadership, and selflessness.”

“Continuing my career as a basketball player as well as Centenary’s education were the two major factors in my decision of choosing this college,” said Tremie. “On my campus visit in 2020 as a senior in high school, I immediately felt accepted and wanted here. Seeing how small the school was and close-knit the students were here on campus was very comforting and presented a look of a new family when I was leaving my own family back home.”

Asked about what she loves about the Gold Dome and playing for the Ladies her face lit up. Tremie flashed her signature smile and talked at length about the comfort of her home court and her teammates. She has found a home at Centenary and we are proud to call her on of our own.

“I am honored to be featured for the SCAC Character and Community award because it gives a reassuring and proud feeling of knowing I’m headed in the right direction. The goal was never to be praised for doing the right things and receiving this award creates a challenge to continue in what I do and excel it even further.”
