Centre's Prewitt; Rhodes' Bell Selected D3hoops Preseason All-Americans

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior guard Maggie Prewitt of Centre College and senior guard Sharwil Bell of Rhodes College have been selected as 2011-12 D3hoops.com Preseason All-Americans. Prewitt was a Second Team selection while Bell was named a Fourth Team selection. Complete Release

Prewitt, the 2010-11 SCAC Player-of-the-Year, was a consensus All-America selection last season, earning Third Team honors from D3hoops.com and was an Honorable Mention selection by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. She was chosen to the 2010-11 All-SCAC First Team and to the 2010-11 D3hoops.com All-South Region First Team, as well.

During the season Prewitt collected her 1,000 career point and finished the season with 1,277 career points, which constitutes the second-highest total by any Centre player in the SCAC era-behind former teammate Chelsea Goodman, who had 1,365 points.

Prewitt ended the season ranked 12th in the nation for Division III players in three-point field-goal percentage (43.1) and 27th in points per game (18.9). She also completed her junior season leading the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in assists with 106 (4.21 per game). Prewitt is also second in scoring with 492 points (average of 18.9 points per game) and three point field goal percentage (43.1%), third in assist/turnover ratio (1.2), tied for fourth in three point field goals made (2.3), and fifth in free throw percentage (80.9%).

Bell lead the conference in scoring during the 2010-11 season by averaging 19.2 points per game. She became the first woman's player from Rhodes to win an SCAC scoring title since Taylor Cook did it in 2003-04. She recorded 10 double-doubles during the season and also grabbed 8.8 rebounds per game (tied for second in the SCAC) and averaged 2.4 steals per game (second in the SCAC). 

Bell was a D3hoops.com Second Team All-South selection last season and was the SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year in 2009-10.
