JACKSON, Miss. - Junior Shante Morton of Eupora, Mississippi became the ninth Major in women's basketball history to achieve 1,000 points in a career.
Morton achieved the milestone on Friday at
Southwestern after she hit a beautiful post move layup with 15:26
remaining in the second half. She currently sits with 1,026 points
in her career.
Morton became the first Majors since Crystal Dickerson achieved
the feat in 2009. She has already passed Dickerson on the All-Time
scoring list as she sits eighth overall. The next Major on the
scoring list in Jillian Compton (2001-05) who sits in seventh with
1,232 total points.
Morton also becomes the 73rd member in Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference history to join the 1,000-career point
mark.
The Majors, sitting at 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the SCAC, return
to action on Friday as they take on the Birmingham-Southern
Panthers at 6 p.m.
