SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference released the seeds and bracket for the 2009 Volleyball
Championship Tournament this morning. Oglethorpe University, in
Atlanta, Ga., will host the tournament taking place November
6-7.
Red-hot and 12th-ranked nationally Southwestern University,
15-0 in the SCAC (26-3 overall), earned the tournament's top
seed. The Pirates have won 24 straight matches heading into the
championships.
Colorado College, who is ranked 14th in the nation, earned
the No. 2 seed. The Tigers are 12-2 in SCAC play and 29-3
overall. DePauw University (11-3 in the SCAC; 26-6 overall) swept
its four matches at the second SCAC East/Central Divisional this
past weekend and earned the tournament's No. 3 seed.
Rounding out the top five seeds are 17th-ranked
Trinity University (11-4 SCAC; 24-8 overall) as the No. 4 seed
and Austin College (9-6 SCAC; 23-9 overall) as the No. 5 seed.
First-round action gets underway Friday November 6, at 11:30 a.m.
EST at Dorough Fieldhouse on the campus of Oglethorpe
University. The tournament continues Saturday November 7, with
action starting at 9 a.m. EST.
