LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five SCAC women’s cross country teams were in action last week, highlighted by the Colorado College women capturing the team title at the New Mexico Highlands Cross Country Jam Saturday morning in Las Vegas, N.M.
Following the individual winner Theresa Moser of NMHU, Colorado College runners took the next five spots, led by sophomore Megan Koch, who finished second by completing the 5K course in a season-best time of 19:35. Freshman Emily Dwyer was third in 19:38, followed by freshman Claire Quinn in fourth (19:44), junior Alexia Preston in fifth (19:45) and senior Claire Tobin in sixth (19:48).
Johnson & Wales also participated but did not send enough runners to score. The Wildcats were paced by senior Rachel Seligsonwho who finished 14th in a 5K time of 21:33.
Three SCAC teams participated at the Concordia (Texas) Classic, which was run at Old Settlers Park on Friday evening. Texas Lutheran fared the best of the trio of league squads, finishing sixth out of the 11 scoring teams.
Bulldog senior Kylee Garcia took 12th overall in the women's race in a field of 96 runners. Garcia crossed the line for the 4K race in 24:47.3. Senior Ashley Runner came home in 37th with a time of 27:57.1.
St. Thomas finished 11th as the Celts were led by freshman Grace Ringen who was 23rd in a time of 26:24.3. Schreiner, who did not send enough runners to score, was led by a 58th-place finish from sophomore Sarah Endres (29:48.5).
Action heats up this weekend, with seven teams competing in various meets, including Southwestern and Trinity returning to the course at the 31st Annual Chile Pepper Festival Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.
