KELSIE
JACKSON OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a junior
guard from Corpus Christi, Texas, has been selected the SCAC
Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played
through Sunday, February 15th.
Jackson had a huge weekend to clinch at least the
No. 4 seed at the upcoming SCAC Tournament while still keeping them
in reach for the No. 3 seed.
Jackson averaged 21.0 pts/gm on 11-for-24 shooting including 7-for-17 from behind the arch and 13-for-15 from the charity stripe. She added 9.0 reb/gm and 2.0 stl/gm.
Jackson was an intrical part in erasing a 12 point halftime deficit to come-from-behind and take a 72-65 victory. Jackson scored a career-high 30 points, shooting 8-for-15 from the field and 5-for-9 from behind the arch. She was also 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Jackson pulled down nine rebounds and picked up two steals.
On Saturday, the Mountaineers celebrated a successful Senior Day with a 68-64 win over Austin College. Jackson scored 12 points, pulled down nine boards, and added two more steals.
For the season, Jackson leads the team with 12.3 pts/gm (8th in the SCAC) and 6.4 reb/gm (9th in the SCAC). She is also eighth in the league with 31 steals on the season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Christina
Kime of Austin College had an outstanding weekend
shooting the basketball, hitting 50% from the field, 55.6% from
three point range, and 88.9% from the free throw line on her way to
averaging 14.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Senior guard Courtney Tyus of
Colorado College scored 21 points and dished out seven
assists in her 100th and final game at Colorado College. Tyus
became the 18th player in program history to record 500 or more
career rebounds with the last of her seven boards. The senior guard
also finished her career ranked second with 417 assists and ninth
with 1,032 points. Senior
forward Jordan Owens of Southwestern averaged 14 points
per game including 17 points against Colorado College as the
Pirates secured at least a piece of the SCAC regular season title.
Shot 45.8% from the floor, 50% from three point range and 62.5%
from the free throw line. Senior guard Karisa Cantu of Texas
Lutheran helped the Bulldogs to two road wins over the
weekend, extending their winning streak to seven games. Cantu
led the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game. Her
weekend was highlighted by a 23-point outburst against Colorado
College, where she shot 6-of-9 from the field and 10-of-12 from the
free throw stripe. Senior
center Taylor Hollins of Trinity managed 12.0
points/game and 2.5 rebounds/game in Trinity’s two wins. She
connected on 12-16 (75%) of her shots last week, as well as adding
a pair of blocks. Centenary and Dallas did not
nominate anyone.
