KATIE
WATERS OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior guard
from San Francisco, Calif., has been selected the SCAC
Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played
through Sunday, January 5th.
Waters led Colorado College to a pair of
conference wins over Centenary this past weekend, averaging 22.5
pts/gm and 5.0 reb/gm throughout the two games while shooting 72%
from the field.
Waters scored eight points and pulled down eight boards in a 67-56 loss to Northern New Mexico two weekends ago after the Christmas holidays.
Waters scored 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting to go with five rebounds and a steal to earn the Tigers first win of the season over the Ladies. She would follow that up with a career-high 26 points, including shooting 9-for-10 from the field, in a second win over Centenary. With the score tied at 58-58, Waters scored the first five points and eight overall in a decisive 15-7 run to close out the game.
For the season, Waters is averaging 9.3 pts/gm and 3.0 reb/gm. She is currently seventh in the conference with a field goal percentage of 44.4%.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward
Kendall Heitmeier of Austin College had a big week scoring
the ball for Austin College, going off for a career high 24 against
UT-Dallas and finishing the week with an average of 16.5 points
while shooting 47.8% from the field, 62.5% from three, and 75% from
the free throw line in two games. Junior forward Briana Edwards of
Centenary averaged a double-double over the three games
including a 22 point, 19 rebound, four steal, five block game
against Hendrix while tying the mark for career blocks at 106.
Senior guard Marleyna
Bustamante of Dallas produced a stellar week for
Dallas, helping her team go 3-0 and build a season-long, four-game
winning streak. The senior guard combined for 48 points,
averaging 16 per contest, and included a season-high 19 in a 64-63
victory at Austin College. Bustamante shot 58.1-percent from the
field through the trio of games. Senior foward Jordan Owens of
Southwestern averaged a double-double in two games with
19.5 points and 11 rebounds per game. Southwestern lost in double
overtime to Concordia but rebounded with a fiery win over Texas
Lutheran to open SCAC action. Senior guard Karisa Cantu of Texas
Lutheran led the team in scoring for the weekend
and scored a season-high 20 points in a come-from-behind win
against LeTourneau while eading her team in assists in all
three games and never notching less than four as well as seven
steals. Senior guard
Hannah Coley of Trinity led Trinity to a 3-0 record
over the past two weeks, pushing the team's winning streak to nine
games by beating McMurry, UW-Eau Claire, and UT-Dallas. Coley paced
the Tigers with 15.0 points/game to go with 3.0 assists/game over
the three victories, adding 2.7 rebounds/game, three blocks, and a
pair of steals against just one turnover. Schreiner did not
nomiante anyone.
