RICHARDSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior
forward from Mesquite, Texas, has been selected the SCAC
Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played
through Sunday, January 12th.
Richardson paced the Tiger attack in a pair
of road wins to open SCAC play over the weekend, defeating both
Austin College and Dallas.
Richardson posted back-to-back double-doubles to push the team's winning streak to 11 games. She averaged 15.5 points/game and 10.0 rebounds/game in the two victories, as well as tallying eight blocks, two assists, and two steals. Richardson scored 12-22 field goals (54.5%) and converted 7-11 (63.6%) from the foul line during the weekend.
On Friday night against Austin, she posted 15 points and 10 boards on 7-10 shooting in a 64-48 victory. Richardson capped the weekend with 19 points and 10 rebounds to go with five blocked shots in an eight-point win at Dallas.
For the season, Richardson leads Trinity with 16.0 points/game and 6.1 rebounds/game. She is also shooting a team-best 59.1% (65-110) from the field, as well as leading the Tiger team with 19 total blocked shots. Richardson's two double-doubles are her first this season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Graduate forward Erin
Riley of Austin College went over the 1,000 point mark
for her career last week, as she averaged 14.0 points and 9.0
rebounds-per-game while shooting 40% from three point range. Riley
boasted a double-double of 13 points and 12 boards against Trinity,
and followed that up with a 15 point performance to push her past
1,000 points. Senior
guard Courtney Tyus of Colorado College dished out a
career-high 12 assists and added 12 point to record her fifth
career double-double on Friday at Southwestern. Freshman forward Michelle DeCoud of
Dallas averaged 15.3 points-per-game and finished as
the team's leading scorer in all three contests for Dallas this
week. The freshman forward matched a career-high, 17 points, for
the third time on the campaign, versus Trinity. In that same game,
DeCoud also pulled down a personal best 14 rebounds and added her
second double-double on the week. Junior guard Kelsie Jackson of
Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers to a 2-0 to open
conference play. She finished the weekend with 14 pts/gm, 7.5
reb/gm, and 2.5 ast/gm. Senior forward Annie Bourne of
Southwestern averaged a double-double as the Pirates
remain undefeated in SCAC play, shooting 63.2 percent from the
floor and 100% from 3-point range. Senior guard Karisa Cantu of Texas
Lutheran enjoyed a stat-stuffing weekend while helping
the Bulldogs to two blowout conference wins at home, averaging 13.5
pts/gm and 5.5 ast/gm while shooting over 54% in both games. Centenary did not
nominate anyone.
