MICHELLE
DeCOUD OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a
freshman forward from Monument, Colo., has been selected the SCAC
Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played
through Sunday, January 19th.
DeCoud set a season-best among individual
scoring performances on the team with 27 points, which also
reflected a career-high feat in a 92-86 OT win at Colorado College,
to lead the Dallas Crusaders to a 2-0 record this past
weekend. She also added nine boards and two
blocked shots
DeCoud shot 12-of-16 from the field to help Dallas to erase a 12-point halftime deficit and force overtime. She added 11 in Friday's victory at Centenary to help aid an active string of five contests in a row breaking double-digit scoring results. She added eight boards, a steal, and a block.
For the weekend, DeCoud averaged 19.0 pts/gm, shooting 16-of-23 from the field, and notching 8.5 reb/gm to go with 1.5 blk/gm.
Her rookie campaign remains impressive as DeCoud has notched the double-digit mark in six of the last seven games, and ties the most on the squad with 10 total. The freshman forward is second on team averaging 12.6 pts/game (9th in the SCAC), and leads the team in rebounds with 8.1 reb/gm (3rd in the SCAC).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Christina
Kime of Austin College was a stat-sheet-stuffer over
the weekend in helping Austin College win two games, averaging 14.5
points, 7.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. Kime
was also on fire from beyond the arc, hitting 46.2% of her three
point attempts, and just missed out on a double-double against
Centenary with 17 points and nine assists. Junior forward Briana Edwards of
Centenary averaged a double-double for the weekend,
registering her fifth double-double of the season and her
third straight as she finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds
against Austin College and 15 points and 11 boards against
Dallas. Senior guard
Courtney Tyus of Colorado College climbed four spots
into 13th place on the program’s all-time scoring list with
968 points. She also tied her career high with seven steals against
Dallas, which improved her career total to 201. She joined Melanie
Auguste (2005-09), who holds the school record with 289, as the
only players in program history to record 200 or more. Sophomore guard Sabriyyah Fennell of
Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers to a 1-1 record
on the week with 11.0 pts/gm and 7.5 reb/gm. She had 15 points and
eight rebounds in the victory over Southwestern. Senior forward McKamie Place of
Southwestern averaged 14.5 pts/gm over the weekend
inclduing 17 points in a loss to Schreiner. She shot an impressive
64.7% from the field over the weekend and 50.0% from behind the
arch. Junior guard Taylor
Dydalewicz of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs in
scoring in both games over the weekend, marking the seventh and
eighth time that's happened this season, as she averaged 16.0
pts/gm and 3.0 stl/gm to lead TLU to a 1-1 record. Junior guard Caitlin Barrett of
Trinity led Trinity to a split of SCAC home games
this weekend, beating Texas Lutheran after dropping a one-point
game against Southwestern the previous night. Barrett averaged 12.5
points/game and 4.0 assists/game for the weekend, hitting 8-12
(66.7%) from the field and 8-11 (72.7%) from three-point range in
the two games.
