INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Texas Lutheran University's Sofia Vega and the doubles pair of Marie Lutz and Liza Southwick from Trinity University were selected to the singles and doubles competition at the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships. Full Release
Vega will compete in her fourth consecutive singles championship this month, making the field of 32 after posting a 25-5 record in singles action this year. Vega is now 105-18 in singles play.
Southwick and Lutz are ranked eight in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national doubles ranking, and have posted a 7-4 dual-match record at No. 1 doubles. Last fall, the two Tigers captured the ITA Southwest Region Doubles Championship. Southwick and Lutz advanced to the USTA/ITA National Small College Doubles Championship, where they fell to an Emory University duo.
The individual championships will consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
The team championship will take place May 23-25 and the individual championships May 26-28, both at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan and will be hosted by Kalamazoo College.
