Texas Lutheran's Stives; Trinity's Hood Named Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Nominees

WACO, Texas – Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) released the nominees for the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Thursday and two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes earned the honor.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® is the most esteemed off the field honor in college football. For 24 years, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has recognized college football players from across the country who exemplifies a superior commitment to community service and volunteerism.

Texas Lutheran University’s Dominick Stives and Trinity University’s Brad Hood were both named as nominees for the award. On campus, Hood is a member of the Trinity University Coalition for Respect, which raises awareness of sexual assault. Hood is also part of the Trinity Residential Life staff, which assists first-year students, and the Trinity Student Conduct Board.

Stives, a senior defensive lineman from Wylie, Texas, is involved with a number of community service activities both on campus at Texas Lutheran and in the Seguin community. He volunteers at the Stillwater Christian sports camp and for the Salvation Army outside of campus. Stives is also a regular participant in TLU’s Day of the Dogs, an annual day of service during which TLU students complete community service projects.

Stives is a contributor to the TLU Water Bottle House, a project that takes used water bottles and turns them into a usable dwelling. Stives also regularly visits Patlan Elementary in Seguin, where he participates in Dr. Seuss Day by spending time reading books to the students.

Hood, a junior outside linebacker from Lago Vista, Texas, is an engineering science major at Trinity and spent a school year with his department developing a project for Lighthouse for the Blind of San Antonio. Hood volunteers at Nichols Elementary, where he assists students with the design and fabrication of solar powered cars. He also was a volunteer for Special Olympics, and was a youth group student leader at Northlake Bible Church in Lago Vista.

On campus, Hood is a member of the Trinity University Coalition for Respect, which raises awareness of sexual assault. Hood is also part of the Trinity Residential Life staff, which assists first-year students, and the Trinity Student Conduct Board.

In order to meet the criteria set forth by Allstate and the AFCA, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing.

Comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA, the final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September. From the nominees submitted by sports information directors across the nation on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members and prominent college football media members will select the 2015 Good Works Team.®
