CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Currently in 30th place, Trinity University leads four SCAC institutions ranked in the prestigious 2015-2016 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup fall standings. Complete NACDA Release
Trinity has amassed 285.50 points in the standings on the strength of its three NCAA appearances this winter. The Tigers placed 17th in women's swimming & diving, while earning 33rd in women's basketball and 52nd in men's swimming & diving. They had previously earned 183 points from four national appearances in the fall.
Colorado College has 94 points and is in 126th place among the 277 schools ranked. The Tigers placed 35th in women's swimming & diving, added to their two NCAA appearances in the fall.
Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University are tied for 219th place. The Pirates earned all of their 25 points in the fall, while TLU picked up points in men's basketball this winter with a 33rd place finish.
Williams College leads all of Division III at the completion of the fall championships season with 743.25 points, and has a 36.25-point lead over second-place Washington-St. Louis (707). Amherst College is currently in third place with 589.50 points, while Tufts University holds onto fourth (550) and MIT is fifth (543).
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women’s and nine men's.
To date, all 10 winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s basketball - Thomas More; men's basketball - St. Thomas (MN); women's ice hockey - Plattsburgh State; men's ice hockey - Wisconsin - Stevens Point; skiing - Denver; women's swimming & diving - Emory University; men's swimming & diving - Denison University; men's indoor track & field - Wisconsin - Eau Claire; women's indoor track & field - Baldwin Wallace; wrestling - Wartburg
