KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released the Division III Men’s Soccer All-West Region team Thursday morning, and 10 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes earned the honor. Full release

The SCAC received five first team, two second team and three third team selections. 11 players earning the honor matches the total from last year.

Trinity University’s Chad Margotta, Laurence Wyke, Tom Carwile and Christian Sakshaug, along with Colorado College’s Max Grossenbacher, made up the first team honorees.

CC’s Jack McCormick paired with Derrick Horvath of Trinity to find spots on second team, while Theo Hooker and Soren Frykholm, both of Colorado College, and the University of Dallas’ Colton Allen landed on third team.

Margotta, a senior goalkeeper from San Antonio, Texas, posted a 21-3 record in the net, allowing just nine goals through 25 games played. Margotta racked up 93 saves for a .912 save percentage, while allowing just 0.35 goals per game. He posted 14 clean sheets on the season.

Carwile, a senior defender from Tulsa, Okla. and Wyke, a first-year defender from Bolton, England, led a Trinity defense that ranked third in the nation, allowing just 0.35 goals per game. Carwile earned both the Men’s Soccer Tournament Defensive MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors this season.

In addition to their defensive efforts, both Carwile and Wyke got involved on the offensive side of the ball. Carwile tied for the conference lead with nine goals, including seven game-winners. He also scored the game-winning goal in the men’s soccer tournament this year, earning Trinity the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Wyke added four goals and a pair of assists on the season.

Sakshaug, a freshman midfielder from San Antonio, Texas, made a big impact during his first year with the Tigers, tying Carwile with nine goals on the season to lead the team and the conference, while also adding a team-high seven assists for 25 points. Sakshaug was voted the SCAC Newcomer of the Year by the league’s coaches.

Grossenbacher, a senior forward from Austin, Texas, was Colorado College’s only first team honoree. Grossenbacher posted nine goals on the season, tied with two others for the conference lead, while adding a league-high nine assists for 27 points. He also fired off 98 shots, the most among SCAC players. Grossenbacher earned Offensive Player of the Year honors this season.

McCormick, a junior defender from Hudson, Ohio, and Hooker, a sophomore goalkeeper from Albuquerque, N.M. led a Colorado College defense that ranked second in the SCAC, allowing just 0.67 goals per game. The Tigers posted nine shutouts on the season, while allowing just 14 goals.

Hooker spent 1857:48 minutes in the net, allowing just 14 goals, while making 55 saves. He posted a record of 14-3-3 and took credit for seven shutouts.

Horvath, a senior forward from Fairview, Texas, was another offensive weapon for Trinity. He earned Offensive MVP honors at the 2015 men’s soccer tournament, while leading an offense that posted 22 wins on the season. Horvath accounted for six goals and a pair of assists on the season, including four game-winning goals.

Rounding out the SCAC honorees is Frykholm, a junior midfielder from Boulder, Colo., and Allen, a senior forward from Keller, Texas. Frykholm helped CC’s offensive attack with three goals and an assist on the season. Allen totaled five goals on the season for the Crusaders.
