SCAC Women's Cross Country Recap - Week Seven

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - League teams ran in their final prep races prior to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship meet as six of eight squads were in action.

Colorado College and Trinity both faced off against national competition at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Pre-National Invitational and the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle, respectively. 

Colorado College, which finished 36th out of 52 competing teams, was led for the second consecutive race by freshman Megan Koch, who covered the 6K course in a time of 24:08. minutes, Senior Leah Veldhuisen finished second on the squad in 24:10.

Trinity, ranked fifth in the South/Southeast Region, placed 13th of 39 teams at the Inter-Regional Border Battle. The Tiger women scored 382 pointss and came within 20 points of second-ranked and 12th-place finisher University of Lynchburg. Molly McCullough was Trinity's top finisher, placing seventh of some 345 runners. McCullough ran the 6K in 21:39.1.

The University of Dallas Invitational was cancelled due to inclement weather, pushing the Dallas and Austin College men to the sidelines and for Schreiner and Southwestern to scramble for other competition. Schriener traveled to the Bill Libby Invitational hosted by McMurry University on Saturday morning. The team finished eighth overall as Sarah Endres led the Mountainners with a 36th-place finish with a time of 32:33.2. Southwestern hosted a dual meet against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Valerie Acosta paced the Pirates with a 23.13 over the 5K course.

Johnson & Wales sent three runners to the Fort Hays State Tiger Open. The Wildcats were paced in the 5K race by Rachel Seligson who crossed the finish line in 59th place with a time of 21:36.6.

Texas Lutheran had four women compete at the University of California Riverside Highlander Invitational. In a race filled primarily with NCAA Division I teams, Ashley Rynard finished 100th overall with a 5K time of 19:17.9.

After an off week, next up for all eight women's cross country programs will be the 2018 SCAC Cross Country Championships, which is being hosted by Schreiner University and will take place on Saturday, October 27.
