SCAC Women's Cross Country Recap - Week One

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - All eight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's cross country teams opened their 2018 campaigns this past weekend.

Texas Lutheran and Trinity kicked off the season in the wee hours Friday morning at the Tigers' Alamo City Opener at Olmos Basin Park.

The TU women won the 5K event, outscoring Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) University 19 to 41. Trinity beginns the 2018 campaign ranked 37th in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Preseason Poll. Six Trinity women's runners finished in the top 10, paced by All-American Molly McCullough, who posted a time of 18:32.8. TLU, who only sent four runners to the race, was paced by junior Ashley Rynard who took third overall in a time of 19:31.9 minutes.

On Friday evening, Johnson & Wales kicked off its 2018 season at Colby Community College's Trojan Invitational. The Wildcats finished in third place with a team score of 59 and was led by junior Rachel Seligson who crossed the finish line in 17th place with a time of 23:29.

On Saturday, Austin College and Dallas competed against each other and other Texas schools at the Dallas Baptist Patriot Opener. The Crusader women placed third out of six participating teams, finishing with 97 points. UD's Anna Wilgenbusch debuted in her first collegiate race with the team's best individual time (20:15.7), and her PR was good enough for 13th place individually. Austin College did not place after having only four runners complete the event, but was led by senior Hannah Fraga placing 30th with a time of 23:24.0.

Led by a top-5 finish from senior Allysa Warling, the Colorado College women's cross country team opened its 2018 season with a fourth-place finish Saturday morning at the Rust Buster meet, hosted by UCCS at Monument Valley Park. Warling finished fifth overall, completing the 5K course in 18 minutes, 43.2 seconds.

The Schreiner and Southwestern women both ran at the Southwestern Pirate opener, however, due to confusion with the course, the team results were voided when 31 of 34 compeititors missed a turn and raced a course too short.
