Trinity Men Take Day One Lead at SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships

SHENANDOAH, Texas - Behind first and second-place finishes in the men's 1-meter diving competition, Trinity University took a slim 44-41 lead over Centre College after day one of the 2011 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Conroe ISD Natatorium. Trinity junior Kevin Martin, who won the men's 1-meter board championship last year, set a new SCAC record with a total score of 515.25. Senior teammate Andrew Snead placed second with a score of 443.20. The Tigers also placed senior Richard Hawley (306.15 - 10th-place) in the top ten.

Centre is close behind thanks to a third-place finish by sophomore Ryan Rougeux. Rougeux totaled 424.80 points. First-year teammate Travis Adams placed sixth with a score of 355.85. Classmate Kevin Collis rounded out Centre's top-10 finishers as he finished in ninth with a score of 312.35.

DePauw senior diver Patrick Springer paced the Indiana Tiger divers as he finished in fourth-place with a score of 386.05. Teammate Thomas Bowers just missed placing in the top-10 as he finished 11th with a score of 297.35.

Rounding out the scores was Colorado College (4th - 17 points), Rhodes College (5th - 14 points) and Austin College (6th - 11 points).

The swimming portion of the championships begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. CT with preliminary action in both men's and women's swimming.
