SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Trinity University Department of Athletics has promoted Sean Etheredge to Director of Golf effective immediately, as announced by Director of Athletics Bob King on Thursday.

"Sean has been a valued member of our department for many years now and I am excited to see him take on this new challenge," said King. "Even though we will all miss Carla, the men's and women's golf teams are in good hands with Sean in this new leadership position. This promotion also bolsters Trinity's relationship with The Quarry as our home golf course, which is key to the success of our programs."

Etheredge will oversee the Tiger men's and women's golf teams, following successful seasons for both in 2020-21. Trinity will begin a search for an Assistant Director of Golf immediately, which will complete the Tiger golf coaching staff.

Trinity swept both the men's and women's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in 2021, marking the first time in school history that both Tiger teams won the titles in the same year. Kiona Hsiu was named the SCAC Women's Golf Freshman of the Year and was one of four Tiger women to earn All-SCAC honors. Hsiu and Erin Flynn were both also selected as Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars. Holden Wisener earned the SCAC Men's Golfer of the Year award, while Giorgio Gianoulis took the men's Freshman of the Year award in the conference. Wisener and DJ Springer both earned Golf Coaches Association of America Honorable Mention All-America recognition as well.

As the men's coach last season, Etheredge was named the SCAC Coach of the Year and led the Tigers to an 11th-place finish in the 2021 NCAA III Championship in Wheeling, West Virginia in May. The Class A PGA Professional and Director of Instruction at The Quarry Golf Course in San Antonio assumes Trinity's Director of Golf position following the retirement of longtime Head Coach Carla Spenkoch, who announced her departure in June after 23 years with the program.

About his promotion, Etheredge had this to say: "I am thrilled to accept the position of Director of Golf, and I'm looking forward to the challenge of continuing to grow the success of both programs at the national level."

The Alamo City Classic headlines Trinity's men's and women's 2021-22 schedule, slated for October 11-12 at The Quarry. The remainder of each team's schedule will be released at a later date.
