SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive balloting by SCAC women's head basketball coaches, defending league champion DePauw University and Trinity University were tabbed as preseason favorites to capture the SCAC Eastern Division and Western Division championships respectively for the second consecutive year.
In its final season as a member of the SCAC, DePauw headlined
the annual poll of head coaches and is favored to win the SCAC
title. Head coach Kris Huffman and her Tigers tallied 10 of 12
first place votes to go along with 120 points to take the top
spot.
Centre (107 points) and
Birmingham-Southern (75 points) look to give
DePauw all it can handle in the East. Rounding out the division was
Rhodes College (65 points), Oglethorpe
University (41 points) and Sewanee: The University
of the South (15 points).
The Indiana Tigers look for the program's tenth SCAC championship in 2010-11. DePauw won league titles in 1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2001-02, 2003-04, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2009-10.
In the SCAC Western Division, Trinity tallied 100 points with one first place vote while Hendrix College (93 points, 1 first place vote) and Austin College (55 points) follow Trinity. Head coach Amie Bradley is attempting to guide the Trinity Tigers to their first SCAC title since the 2004-05 season.
Both Hendrix and Austin College welcome new head coaches as Emily Cummings arrives in Conway after three previous years at LaGrange College while Michelle Filander arrives in Sherman after spending last year at Washington and Jefferson College in the Presidents Athletic Conference.
Colorado College (46 points) looks to return to the SCAC Tournament under third year head coach Liz Doran after missing out last year for the first time since the CC Tigers joined the SCAC.
Rounding out the rest of the Western Division is Southwestern University (45 points), and 2011 SCAC tournament host Millsaps College (28 points).
