JAMES
SAPP OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore
forward from Shongaloo, La. has been selected the SCAC Men’s
Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday,
January 25th.
Sapp led the Centenary Gents to a conference
weekend sweep on the road, defeating Trinity and Schreiner and
extending the Gents winning streak to five games and pushing them
into first place in the SCAC.
Sapp averaged 22.5 pts/gm over the weekend, shooting 13-for-27 from the field, 1-for-1 from behind the arch, and 18-for-26 from the free throw line. He also pulled down 13.5 reb/gm while adding 2.5 stl/gm.
Sapp started the weekend with 33 points and 13 rebounds as he was a major reason the Gents erased a 20-point deficit to come-from-behind and defeat the Trinity Tigers, 79-74 (OT), in a rematch of the SCAC Championship Game a year ago. It was the first win in San Antonio for the Gents since the series has been in place. He followed that up with a 12 point, 14 rebound showing in a 62-58 win over Schreiner. The Gents are now 6-2 in SCAC play.
For the season, Sapp leads the conference with 15.8 pts/gm and is third in the league with 7.7 reb/gm. He now has five double-doubles on the year. Sapp is also third in the league in field goal percentage (53.4%) and sixth in the league in free throw percentage (76.6%).
