JAMES
SAPP OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore
forward from Shongaloo, La., has been selected the SCAC Men’s
Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday,
January 11th.
Sapp led Centenary to a 1-1 record in
conference play this past weekend, averaging 24.5 pts/gm on
17-for-32 shooting (53.1%) from the field, 6.0 reb/gm, and 2.0
stl/gm.
In a 75-70 loss to Texas Lutheran, Sapp scored 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting, going 1-for-1 behind the arch and 6-of-9 from the charity stripe, to go with six boards and two steals. He followed that up with a career high 32 points on 12-for-20 shooting to go along with nine boards and two steals in a 70-65 win at Southwestern.
For the season, Sapp has now scored in double figures in 11 consecutive games. It is his third time earning SCAC Player of the Week honors. He is now second in the SCAC in scoring at 15.8 pts/gm and tied for fourth in rebounds at 6.5 reb/gm. He is also second in the conference in field goal percentage at 57.7%.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore guard
Brian Baehl of Austin College led Austin College to a
pair of victories with two strong all-around performances,
averaging 11.5 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game and
boasting an assist to turnover ratio of nearly 4-to-1. Baehl shot
53.8% from the field and 80% from the free throw line as the 'Roos
stayed unbeaten in SCAC play. Senior forward Chris Lesnansky of
Colorado College recorded his eighth career
double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday at Texas
Lutheran. With a total of 37 points this weekend, Lesnansky climbed
past Elliott Broadnax (1996-00) and Rick Moore (1989-03) into
eighth place on the program’s career scoring list with 1,324.
Sophomore guard Michael
Sarrat of Dallas produced a solid week, helping Dallas
go 2-1 on the slate. The sophomore guard posted a team-high, 15
points in the Crusaders' first SCAC win over Trinity on Saturday.
Sophomore forward Wes
Miller of Schreiner helped the Mountaineers to a 1-1
week with 15 pts/gm and 3.5 reb/gm. Freshman forward Ryan Ogden of
Southwestern averaged a double-double in two games this
week as the Pirates went 1-1. 16 pts and 10 reb averages in just
25.5 minutes per game. Shot 42.9% form the floor, 50% form three
point range was perfect from the line while adding a team high
three blocks. Senior
forward Donte McGee of Texas Lutheran averaged 15.0
points and 10.0 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs swept a pair of
SCAC games at home over the weekend. McGee scored 13 points and
grabbed 10 rebounds in the win over Centenary. He had 17 points and
10 rebounds in the win over Colorado College. Trinity did not nominate
anyone.
