Ryan Ogden, Southwestern University, Men's Basketball - Co-Player of the Week (Week 9)

RYAN OGDEN OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a freshman forward from Bellaire, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, January 18th.

Ogden led the Southwestern Pirates to a pair of wins, defeating Trinity on the road before coming back and beating Schreiner.

Ogden averaged 22.5 pts/gm over the weekend, shooting a blistering 15-for-22 from the field and 6-for-7 from behind the arch. He was also excellent at the charity stripe, shooting 9-for-10 from there. 

Ogden began the weekend scoring a career-high 28 points and pulling down 10 boards as the Pirates defeated Trinity in San Antonio for the first time since December 3rd, 2009. He also added two steals in the contest. The Pirates followed that up with a domianting win over Schreiner where Ogden was against terrific, scoring 17 points and picking up two more steals in the victory.

For the season, Ogden is averaging 11.2 pts/gm (10th in the SCAC), while shooting 51.7% from the field (5th in the SCAC), 51.5% from the three point line (3rd in the SCAC), and 79.4% from the free throw line (5th in the SCAC). He also is pulling in 6.6 reb/gm (4th in the SCAC). 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Austin Freet of Austin College just missed out on averaging a double-double in two games, scoring 12.5 points and grabbing 9.5 rebounds per game for the 'Roos. Freet grabbed 10 boards against Colorado College and followed that up with a 19 point, nine rebound effort against Centenary. Senior forward Chris Lesnansky of Colorado College eclipsed the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season. He tied his career high with five steals on Friday against Austin. Senior forward Donte McGee of Texas Lutheran scored a career-high 21 and grabbed a career-best 14 rebounds in the Bulldogs' 90-84 double-overtime win Saturday at Trinity. McGee was 6-for-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from the three-point line, and 7-for-7 from the foul line. Freshman guard Matt Jones of Trinity led the Tiger men's basketball team in a pair of narrow home losses in SCAC play, finishing with a career-high 16 points in a double-overtime game against Texas Lutheran. Jones averaged 8.0 points/game and 4.5 assists/game over the weekend, shooting 6-9 from the field and 2-5 from three-point range. Dallas and Schreiner did not nominate.
