ALEX DEHOYOS OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior guard from Friendswood, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, December 20 through Sunday, January 2. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 8)

Dehoyos averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 rebounds per game to lead the Mountaineers to a pair of key SCAC road victories last weekend, defeating St. Thomas, 87-85, on Friday and then knocking off Colorado College, 87-82 on Sunday. He poured in 20 points and dished out five assists to seal Schreiner’s first win in Colorado Springs since 2017. Dehoyos, who is putting together a standout senior season, is currently third in the SCAC with 17.5 points per game and tied for second in the league averaging 4.8 assists per contest.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Roman Strickland of Austin College had a big weekend following the holiday break, averaging 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, adding 2.5 assists, while shooting 51.4 percent from the field in a pair of tough non-conference losses. Strickland also made 33.3 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the free throw line. Freshman guard Edgar Romero of Colorado College poured in 31 points, the most by a Tiger this season, but CC ran out of time and dropped an 87-82 result against Schreiner last Sunday afternoon at Reid Arena. Romero was 10-of-15 from the floor and went 5-for-8 from behind the arc. He also sank six of seven free throws. He scored 21 points during the second half to help the Tigers cut a 13-point deficit to five during the final 1:58. Romero began the weekend with a 15-point performance during the 99-76 victory over Dallas. For the week, Romero averaged 23 points, 2.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game. He shot .625 from the floor, connecting on 15 of 24 attempts, and was 8-for-12 from behind the arc, good for a .667 percentage. Sophomore forward Jack Boyle of Dallas was outstanding in his lone contest over the holiday break, an 81-72 loss to St. Thomas last Sunday. Boyle poured in 24 points on a remarkable 90 percent shooting and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds. He also added two blocks on the night. Senior guard Christian Alaekwe of St. Thomas averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks as the Celts split a pair of SCAC contests last weekend. In the Celts nine-point victory of Dallas on Sunday, Alaekwe poured in 24 points, including 5-fo-10 from beyond the arc. Senior guard AJ Clark of Trinity led the Tigers past MIAA frontrunner Calvin University with a season-high 18 points in the Leslie Robinson Christmas Classic on December 22. The San Antonio-native shot 75 percent from the floor, along with 6-of-7 from the charity stripe, to keep the pressure on the Knights' defense. A do-it-all performer for the Tigers this season, Clark also posted a game-high six rebounds, a pair of assists, a steal and did so without committing a foul.
