LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The women's basketball All-South Region Selections for D3hoops.com were released Monday and Trinity University senior Monica Holguin and head coach Cameron Hill headlined the conference's honorees. D3Hoops All-South Region Team
Hill was named the South Region Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to the sectional round of the NCAA tournament, and a 28-2 record. During the conference tournament, Hill was also named the SCAC Coach of the Year.
Holguin, a senior guard from El Paso, Texas, earned the region's Player of the Year award. In her final season with the Tigers, Holguin averaged 15.4 points per game, while shooting 42.9% from the field. She also grabbed 5.0 rebounds per contest, while dishing out 2.9 assists. Holguin also totaled 58 steals for the season, which was fifth among the conference.
Holguin was also named the league's Player of the Year, and earned first team honors.
Trinity's Micah Weaver and Texas Lutheran University's Kristen Lye also earned spots on the all-region teams.
Weaver, a junior forward from Poth, Texas, was named to the All-South Region Second Team after dominating in her first year with the Tigers. Her 15.8 points per game ranked second among the conference, while she shot a league leading 54.1% from the field. Weaver also pulled down 5.4 rebounds per game, while dishing out 56 assists for the season and collecting 56 steals.
Lye, a senior forward from San Antonio, Texas, was named to the third team. For the season, she nearly averaged a double-double with 14.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Lye dished out 51 assists on the season, while recording 32 steals and 10 blocks.
