SUWANEE, Ga. - After starting the season 4-10, the Crusaders of Dallas have now won three straight games going 3-1 this past weekend to improve its record to 7-11 on the year as most teams are on Spring Break Tournament trips all across the country.

Austin College dropped its two
games last week, falling 9-1 and 12-8 at the University of
Texas-Dallas last Tuesday. The Roos are now 2-8 overall this season
with the two defeats. Suzanne Beltran had a big week at the plate,
going 3-for-5 with four RBI, three runs scored and two homers to
pace the Roos offensively. This week the Roos are in Florida, where
they will play eight games as a part of the Rebel Games against
teams from throughout the country.
Birmingham Southern went 2-2 this week on
the road, dropping two close games to Covenant College on Saturday
and defeating Maryville College twice on Sunday. The two losses
were the Panthers’ first of the season. BSC is at home this
Tuesday against Mississippi College and Friday against junior
college Marion Military Institute.
Centre went 3-3 on the week. The Colonels
earned their first win of the season with a 10-5 win over Defiance
Friday, but dropped the second game of the doubleheader 5-3. Centre
then hosted its annual March Mayhem Tournament and went 2-2
defeating Oberlin 5-2 and losing to Rose-Hulman 6-2 on Saturday and
defeating Manchester 4-3 and losing to Allegheny 13-2 Sunday. The
Colonels, now 3-8 overall, will next host Franklin Saturday in a
doubleheader and then Hanover Sunday in another
doubleheader.
Dallas (7-11) played four games on the week. On Monday
afternoon, Dallas split with Sul Ross State University with a 6-4
loss in Game 1, followed by a 9-0 triumph in Game 2. The Lady
Crusaders then trekked up to Sterling, Kan., for a doubleheader
with Sterling College on Thursday afternoon. Dallas registered an
8-7 eight-inning Game 1 victory, before capping the trip with an
8-3 win. The squad has achieved their second three-game winning
streak of the season.
Hendrix was not in action last week due to the Softball
Showcase of Hope hosted by Rhodes being canceled. The Warriors will
play at the University of the Ozarks in a double-header on
Tuesday then will travel to Fort Myers, Fla. for a 10-game
trip beginning Sunday.
Millsaps played once this week and dropped a doubleheader
on Wednesday afternoon to Division II Christian Brothers. Though
the Majors combined for 15 hits in two games, they could not find a
way to slow down the Lady Bucs offense as they came away with a 9-4
and 5-4 wins. With the losses, the Majors fall to 4-8 in the young
campaign. Millsaps is set to travel to Shreveport, Louisiana for a
doubleheader with Centenary College on Thursday before returning
home to host a set of games.
The Memphis area was hit with a powerful storm causing the
softball program to cancel this weekend's softball showcase. The
storm, which began around the noon hour Thursday, didn't leave the
area until the early morning hours of Friday. When all was said and
done, the storms winds and rain wreaked havoc on the softball
field, dumping better than two inches of water before dissipating.
Rhodes Softball is off until Thursday (March 15)
and Friday (March 16) when the Lynx travel to Atlanta to play a
four game set with Piedmont and LaGrange.
Sewanee dropped a pair of contests against Saturday. The
Tigers fell 15-5 in the first game and 15-6 in the nightcap. With
the losses, the Tigers drop to 1-6 on the season. Kayla Sewell led
the Tigers with four hits on the day.Sewell is now hitting .632
with 12 hits, eight runs, two doubles, four homeruns, and eight
RBI. Sewanee will return to action in two weeks when they open SCAC
play on Saturday, March 24 with a four-game series against Rhodes
College in Memphis. Tenn.
Southwestern had a light week of action before ramping up
for the Rebel Games in Florida this week. The Pirates faced Texas
Lutheran in Seguin for a double-header on Tuesday. Game one was a
defensive showcase with TLU scoring first in the second inning.
Southwestern matched the one run effort in the fifth and then
pushed two runs across in the seventh to seal a 3-1 win. The
offenses took over in game two as the teams combined for 22 runs.
The Bulldogs went up by seven 12-5 after six innings and SU pushed
back with a seventh inning rally, but scored five to fall 12-10.
The Pirates currently sit at 7-8 on the year. They head to Florida
and play two games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at the Rebel
Games.
Trinity was off last week, but will begin a week of six
games against five different teams on Tuesday afternoon against
UT-Tyler. The Tigers host UT-Tyler on Tuesday afternoon, then will
compete at the Tucson Invitational on March 16-17. Trinity will
face Central (IA) College and Lakeland (WI) College on Friday, then
will finish their part in the tournament against Augsburg (MI)
College and Calvin (MI) College on Saturday. Wednesday’s
doubleheader with Concordia (TX) was moved to March 28.
