SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Director of Athletics Bob King has announced that Selena Collins has resigned her position as the head coach of Trinity's softball program.
Coach Collins recently completed her second season with the Tigers, having led the team to the championship game of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in each of her first two seasons. She posted a record of 49-38 in two years at Trinity, and came within one victory of the school record for wins in a season.
"I have decided to take time away from coaching to dedicate the next year or two to my husband and the new addition to our family that we will be welcoming in a few months," said Coach Collins. "This decision does not come without heartache, but I feel it is the best decision for my family and me. I want to thank Bob King for giving me the opportunity to lead the Trinity softball program, and allowing me to teach the best way I know how…I will forever be grateful."
Coach Collins also indicated that she has been very proud of her team the past two years, which has exceeded the high expectations and demands placed on them throughout her time with Trinity. She also revealed that the players helped her discover her true passion for coaching.
Trinity will begin a search for a replacement for Coach Collins shortly, and applications can be sent to the Human Resources Department at Trinity.
"I am very appreciative of the leadership of Selena Collins over the past two years," added King. "She brought a winning attitude to the team, and has established a blueprint of how to have a successful softball program at the Division III level."
Trinity finished second in the SCAC this past year, falling to Birmingham-Southern in the SCAC Championship game. The Tigers finished the 2012 season with a 28-14 overall record, winning the SCAC West Division.
