SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Trinity University Tigers fourth-year head softball coach Nicole Smith has submitted her resignation. Director of Athletics Bob King said a national search for a new coach will begin immediately.

Coach Smith amassed a record of 70-70 at the Tigers helm. She guided Trinity to a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship (2007), and to an NCAA Division III playoff berth the same year.

Last season, the Tigers went 16-22 overall, and 7-7 in the SCAC regular season. Trinity had a 2-2 record at last month’s SCAC Championship Tournament at Conway, Ark.

The former Nicole Dickson was a standout player for the Tiger team from 1997 through 2000. The talented infielder was elected to the All-SCAC First Team in 1999 and 2000, as well as the All-Region Second Team in 2000. As team captain, she helped lead the Tigers to two back-to-back SCAC titles in 1999 and 2000. Trinity also made its first-ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance, in 2000.
