COLE LAVERGNE OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior infielder from Sulphur, La., has been named the SCAC Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week for games played through Sunday, April 29th. Jeff Lonnecker of Trinity University is the other Co-Pitcher of the Week.
After five innings of high stress relief in a 13-inning game Saturday night, Lavergne came back in the series finale and helped Centenary clinch its third championship of the last four years.
In the final five innings, Lavergne threw only 60 pitches, 48 for strikes. In the final four innings, he allowed only a pair of hit batters and two infield toppers to third. When he was not pitching, he also played every other inning of the series at first base.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior pitcher Nathan Malinovsky of Texas Lutheran University struck out nine and did not allow an earned run in six innings of work as the Bulldogs defeated Austin College 13-1 in the middle game of a three-game TLU sweep.
