MATTHEW DEVILLIER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior right-handed pitcher from Lake Charles, La., has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played through Sunday, April 22nd.
Devillier allowed just two walks, and no runner past second, in throwing the first no hitter for Centenary as a member of Division III.
He threw just 115 pitches and recorded 12 strikeouts, four more than his previous career high. He ended the ninth in style when he struck out the side. It was just the fifth nine-inning solo no hitter - and only the fourth of which was a shutout - in NCAA Division III this season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Pitcher Austin Smith of Southwestern University combined for 13.1 innings last week, striking out 12 total batters, including eight against Texas Lutheran University in the series finale. Junior pitcher Nathan Malinovsky of Texas Lutheran University tossed a complete game five-hitter in the opening game of Sunday's doubleheader versus Southwestern University. First year right-handed pitcher Corey Cater of Trinity University came on in relief in the seventh inning of a tight ball game, pitching three shutout innings to lift the Tigers to victory.
