JUSTIN ALPHONSE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore first baseman from The Woodlands, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, April 1st.
Alphonse had a huge weekend to help Austin College take two of three at Dallas, hitting safely in all three games on his way to a .545 average, .688 on-base percentage, and a whopping 1.273 slugging percentage.
Alphonse belted two home runs and two doubles, scoring three runs, and driving in four more, to total 14 total bases on his six hits. He also drew five walks.
Over the past week, Alphonse led the league in both batting average and slugging percentage and was second in on-base percentage.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore infielder Seth Hanson of the University of Dallas went 3-5 with two home runs and a career-high five RBI in the Crusaders 11-1 win over Austin College. Sophomore outfielder Byron Dowdell II of Southwestern University was 7-for-13 at the plate last week, totaling six RBI and five runs. Sophomore first baseman Tyler Cauley of Texas Lutheran University finished 6-for-13 with one run scored, a double and a solo home run in last week's series against #1 Trinity University. Sophomore outfielder Rafe Chaumette of Trinity University hit .417 (5-12) for the three games, driving in two runs and scoring another against #12 Texas Lutheran.
