RILEY SCHAEFER OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior outfielder from Thorndale, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 11th.
Schaefer hit .500 over a three-game non-conference sweep of the University of Texas at Dallas.
Schaefer homered three times, tying TLU and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference single-game records, to lead the Bulldogs to a 15-5 win late Saturday afternoon.
Schaefer hit a three-run home run in the second and belted solo shots in the third and sixth. He also had a double and set a new conference record for total bases in a single game (14).
Schaefer finished the weekend going 7-for-14 with six total runs scored and five RBI.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior outfielder Oscar Gonzalez of Austin College continued his scorching hot start at the plate, batting .500 with three RBI while also boasting a .625 on-base percentage as the 'Roos split a doubleheader at LeTourneau. Junior outfielder Jordan Stickler of the University of Dallas reached base in all eight plate appearances in Sunday's doubleheader sweep over Blackburn College to secure a non-conference series win. Sophomore outfielder Byron Dowdell II of Southwestern University hit .417 and slugged .833 to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 record last week. Senior outfielder Blake Frampton of Trinity University picked up two hits in each game last week, going 4-8 (.500 average) with one RBI and one run scored, and hitting two triples among his four total hits.
