ROCKWALL, Texas -- After sweeping both the 200
medley and 800 free relays, the Trinity University men jumped out
to quick lead on the opening day of the 2014 SCAC Swimming &
Diving Championships. Official

At the completion of Wednesday's session, the Trinity men have 119
points, followed by Southwestern University with 87 points and
Colorado College with 80 points. University of California-Santa
Cruz - competing in its inaugural SCAC championship meet - is
currently fourth with 64 points. Centenary College is fifth with 30
points and Austin College is sixth with 20 points.
The 200 medley relay team of Isaac Johnson, Tom Jones, Stephen
Culberson and Adam Thomas finished in a time of 1:33.54 - the
third-fastest time in SCAC meet history - to defeat Southwestern
University. The Pirates finished in a time of 1:34.76, which
established a new school record. Colorado College was third in a
time of 1:36.87.
Trinity's Culberson, Andrew Thiesse, Lucas Belury and Conor Young
completed the evening's session with a first-place finish in the
800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:52.88 - the fourth fastest
finish in SCAC meet history. It was the first win in the event for
the TU program since 2008. Colorado College finished second
(6:56.08) and UC-Santa Cruz came in third with a time of
6:56.59.
Men's 1-meter diving was also completed Wednesday evening with
Colorado College's Austin Howlett earning his second-consecutive
title in the event. Howlett dominated the event with a
school-record and NCAA qualifying score of 498.10, breaking his
previous standard in the 11-dive event by 17.15 points. Galve
Deleste and Philip Whalen of Trinity University finished 2-3.
Competition continues on Thursday with preliminaris beginning at
10:30 a.m., women's 1-meter diving at 1:30 p.m. and finals at 6:30
