SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Trinity University men
have the early lead after Day One of the 2014 SCAC Men's Track
& Field Championship which are being contested at Trinity.

With six events in the books, the host Tigers accumulated 77
points after Friday's first round, followed closely by Southwestern
University who has 63 points. The University of Dallas is third
with 21 points and Colorado College is fourth with 12 points.
Cody Taylor of Southwestern won the pole vault for the second
consecutive year, clearing 14 feet, 3 3/4 inches. Joey Kozak of
Trinity placed second with a best vault of 9 feet, 11 3/4
inches.
Stephen Thai of Trinity won the triple jump with a leap of 40
feet, 1 1/4 inches. Southwestern's Alec Bergerson was second at 39
feet, 11 1/4 inches and Vincent Omegba of Trinity finished third
with a best jump of 39 feet, 3 3/4 inches.
In the shot put, Southwestern's Will Devin set a new school record
with a toss of 40 feet, 1/2 inch to earn gold medal honors.
Trinity's Stephen Mason was second with a throw of 37 feet, 10
inches and Joseph Quintero of Southwestern placed third with a toss
of 37 feet, 3 1/4 inches.
After finishing second a year ago, Quintero earned gold in the
hammer throw this season with a winning toss of 114 feet, 1 inch.
Teammate Rance Thorne was second with a toss of 106 feet and
Stephen Mason of Trinity was third with a throw of 104 feet, 9
inches.
As the afternoon moved into the evening, attention turned to the
track with the running of the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the
10,000 meters.
Colorado College's Will Richmond won the 3,000 meter steeplechase
in a time of 10:04.87. Trinity's Evan Epps, who had just taken the
lead from Richmond on the backstretch, tripped on a hurdle in the
backstretch and had to settle for second in a time of 10:13.17.
Dallas' Kevin Doherty was third in a time of 10:23.12.
Trinity teammates, in a show of solidarity, locked hands as they
neared the finish line of the 10,000 meters and finished 1-2 as
Gerardo Hernandez nudged just ahead of Taylor Piske at the line.
Hernandez finished in a time of 35:09.24 while Piske's time was
35:09.52. Dallas' Javier Secaira was third in a timeof
36:30.82.
