NICOLE GARDINI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defender from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 22nd through Sunday, September 28th.
Gardini led Trinity’s defense in three shutout victories over the past week, including a conference weekend sweep against Schreiner and Texas Lutheran.
Gardini also added her first career goal in Sunday’s win over Texas Lutheran. Gardini and the Tiger defense recorded its fifth consecutive shutout, giving up just two total shots in the three games. Led by Gardini, Trinity didn’t allow any shots in the conference games over the weekend.
For the season, Gardini and Trinity’s defense has recorded six total shutouts – including five consecutive clean sheets.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya
of Austin College earned her third
shutout of the season in Austin College's only game of the week,
making two saves in a win over Centenary. Senior defender Kayla Nguyen of
Dallas was a leader on the defense, pitching a
shutout over Centenary and also scoring a goal over the
weekend. Freshman defender Ana Gutierrez of
Southwestern was a critical
defender, giving the Pirates a 2-0 conference record over the
weekend. Also had a goal and and
assist. Centenary, Schreiner,
and Texas
Lutheran did not nominate
anyone.
