FRANCHESCA LOZOYA OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior goalkeeper form Lubbock, Texas has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1.
Lozoya helped the ‘Roos to a winning weekend, shutting out Howard Payne University 1-0 Saturday and East Texas Baptist University 2-0 Sunday.
Lozoya racked up 12 saves on the weekend, seven
against HPU and five in the match with ETBU. The two shutouts this
weekend are just one away from totaling the number of shutouts that
Lozoya recorded during the entire 2013 season.

Other outstanding
performances in the SCAC:
Freshman
goalkeeper Tori Fleharty of Dallas recorded 18 saves on
the weekend as she helped the Crusaders go 1-1 on the weekend,
including a shutout of Southwestern (Kan.). Freshman defender Megan McGrath
of Southwestern started at center back both games and
was a solid ball winner. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Rose of
Texas Lutheran had 11 saves in Friday's 1-0 loss
to Mary Hardin-Baylor which was the second-most in her career. Her
heroics kept that game against UMHB scoreless until the 72nd
minute. Senior
midfielder Kirby Peddicord of Trinity led a
Tiger defense that allowed just one goal on eight shots in the
season opener against St. Scholastica. Centenary College and
Schreiner
University did not nominate anyone.
