JESSICA VARNER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior from Baton Rouge, La., has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's Golfer of the Week for competitions through February 27, 2018.
Varner won her fifth collegiate tournament and the third of the season at the Linda Lowery Invite Monday and Tuesday.
While in the final round, Varner was +6 on the front nine and then made eight pars and one bogey on the back half to rally for the win. Her 77 (+7) was the best score on the final day as Varner was only one of two-golfers to be less than 10-over par for the round. She easily bested the field in pars (21) and par-4 scoring (4.45, + 9), completing the two-day competition at 154 (+14).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Leilani McDaniel of Southwestern University finished in third place at the Linda Lowery Invitational, posting a score of 158 to lead the Pirates to a top finish. Alyssa Holbrook of Schreiner Universty led the Mountaineers at the Linda Lowery, shooting a 171 (82-89) to finish in 16th place.
