JESSICA VARNER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior from Baton Rouge, La., has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's Golfer of the Week for competitions through September 26.
Varner earned her second consecutive Golfer of the Week award after winning the Al Jones Jr. Memorial Tournament hosted by the University of Texas - Tyler. Varner's win marked her third straight first place finish and the fourth of her career.
Varner finished the tournament leading in par-5 scoring (-4, one of only two players under par) and with seven birdies. After seven holes, she was +3 for the round and was tied for fourth individually, two strokes behind the leader. However, she responded with four birdies and only one bogey in the final 11 holes to wrap up the event.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Reygan Rodriguez of Schreiner University tied for 19th place at the Al Jones Jr. Memorial this week, carding a 165. Emily Campbell of Southwestern University finished in second place at the Al Jones Jr. Memorial Tournament with a score of 150. Summer Swift of Texas Lutheran University took 15th place this week with a score of 163 to lead the Bulldogs.
