LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior shortstop Karen Ramirez of Southwestern University and sophomore pitcher Kaci Wellik of Trinity University have been named SCAC Softball Players of the Week for their terrific performances this past weekend.

Games of March 17th– March 23rd
KAREN RAMIREZ
OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior shortstop from
Waco, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive
Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 17th through
Sunday, March 23rd.
Ramirez enjoyed a productive week in helping the
Pirates to a series win over Centenary.
Ramirez was lights out at the plate over the
weekend, posting a .643 batting average in four games. In 14 at
bats she had nine hits, including two doubles and one homerun, with
six RBIs and six runs scored with a 1.000 slugging percentage. She
was also a perfect 5-5 in stolen bases.
After taking a loss in the opening game, Ramirez
responded with a 3-for-4 games includin ga homer and two runs
scored in a dominating win. She followed that up by going 4-for-6
the following day including a 3-for-3 day with a double, two RBIs
and three stolen bases to clinch the series.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore third
baseman/catcher Briana Hernandez of Austin College had a
strong weekend at the plate in a four game series against Trinity,
batting .444 with her first home run of the season. Senior infielder Whitney Patterson of
Centenary led the Ladies with five hits over the four games
including the game-winner in the opening contest of the series.
Sophomore outfielder
Jacquelyn Brown of Texas Lutheran appeared in all six games,
starting in five of them, and finished 9-for-15 with six runs
scored and three RBI. The speedy outfielder also stole two bases on
the week. Senior
infielder Chrissy Armstrong of Trinity hit .706 for the
week, going 12-17 at the plate in six games. She picked up
four runs and two RBI, as well as recording five sacrifices.
Against Austin, she was 8-12 (.667) hitting, scoring four
runs and driving in two runs. Dallas and Schreiner did not nominate
anyone.

PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK

KACI WELLIK OF
TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right handed
pitcher from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball
Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, Monday, March
17th through Sunday, March 23rd.
Wellik led Trinity to a 6-0 record over the last
week, highlighted by a four-game SCAC series sweep against Austin
College.
Wellik went 3-0 with an ERA of 0.93 for the week,
giving up just two earned runs (three total) in 15 innings of work.
Opponents hit just .237 against her last week, as she struck out 19
batters, and yielded just four walks.
In the SCAC series, Wellik was 2-0 with an ERA of
0.70, striking out 14 batters in 10 innings. She held Austin
College to a batting average of .135 in her two games pitched.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher Nicole
Gibbs of Southwestern posted Southwestern's first ever
no-hitter on Sunday and went 2-1 over the weekend with a 0.78 era.
In 23 innings of work Gibbs allowed three runs, two earned, on ten
hits while walking seven and striking out seven Sophomore pitcher Taylor Grissom of
Texas Lutheran finished with eight shutout innings pitched,
a complete game and her first-career save, while only giving up two
hits and striking out seven. Austin College, Centenary, Dallas, and Schreiner did not nominate
anyone.
