TOWSON, Md. – Junior infielder Ashley Jacobsen of Texas Lutheran University earned a spot on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-American Team on Wednesday afternoon. CoSIDA Release
An accounting major with a 3.75 grade-point average, Jacobsen (Marion, Texas) has been a star for the Bulldogs both on the field and in the classroom.
The junior second baseman helped lead the Bulldogs to a SCAC title and their first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance this season, while also earning the SCAC's Player of the Year honor. Jacobsen also earned First Team All-SCAC honors.
Along with her conference honors, Jacobsen also landed a spot on the NFCA All-West Region First Team last week.
To be eligible for Academic All-America ® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Jacobsen currently ranks 58th in the country with a .463 batting average, while finishing second in the SCAC with 34 RBI. She also led the conference 18 stolen bases.
After her first three years inside the TLU program, Jacobsen's name is all over the school record books. She broke her own single-season school record for batting average and tied her own mark for hits (69) this year.
She's also broken the career record for runs (141) and is just two hits away from owning that career record, too.
During conference play, Jacobsen raised her game even more, leading the league with a .494 average. She racked up 11 extra-base hits and 21 RBI against SCAC opponents.
Senior infielder Megan Light of Emory University was named the Capital One Division III Academic All-America of the Year.
