DePauw Hammers Three Home Runs On Way To NCAA Win Over Ohio Northern

ADRIAN, Mich. - Jen Kosinski drove in seven runs with a grand slam and a three-run homer, while Amy Hallett added a solo shot as 16th-ranked DePauw topped Ohio Northern, 13-5, in a winner's bracket game of the Adrian Regional in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship. With the win, DePauw improved to 29-8-1 and advanced in the winner's bracket where it will face the winner of the Hiram/Baldwin-Wallace game which was halted due to weather and will be resumed Saturday morning. The Tigers' winner's bracket game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the first today as Kosinski and Emma Minx each drew two-out walks and Haley Buchanan was hit by a pitch. Hallett followed with a two-run single up the middle.

Cymone Allen singled with one out in the second before Rachel MacBeth and Brianne Weeks each walked. Kosinski then followed with the grand slam over the fence in right center which pushed the Tigers' lead to 6-0.

Hallett led off the third with a double and moved to second on Holly Paris' sacrifice bunt. Ashley Anton walked and Samantha Szyska entered as a pinch-runner. A wild pitch allowed Hallett to score and Szyska to move to second. Szyska later scored on MacBeth's infield single.

The Polar Bears cut DePauw's lead in half in the third as Lisa Light led off with a base hit and Christin Miller followed with a bunt single. Kim Blewett then delivered a three-run homer to left. Jackie Mangola followed that with a solo homer to center which closed DePauw's lead to 8-4.

DePauw got one of those runs back in the fourth as Kosinski reached on an error and moved to second on Minx's sacrifice. Buchanan singled to center allowing Kosinski to score. MacBeth and Weeks each singled in the fifth and Kosinski homered to right center to make it 12-4. 

Ohio Northern's final run came in the fifth when Blewett singled with two outs. Pinch-runner Colleen Baliga advanced to second on a wild pitch before Mangola walked. Ashley Sujkowski singled, but an error on the play allowed Baliga to score.

Hallett's solo homer in the sixth restored DePauw's lead to eight and the contest ended after six after Emily Bichler retired Ohio Northern in order.

DePauw totaled 11 hits led by Amy Hallett's three and two each from MacBeth, Kosinski and Allen. Kosinski's seven RBI tied the school record and marked the third time in her career she's accomplished the feat. Kosinski also scored four in the win.

Miller and Blewett each had two of the Polar Bears' eight hits.

Bichler improved to 27-8 with the win, while Abbey Bensing dropped to 6-1.
