SUWANEE, Ga. - Colorado College junior Jackson
Brainerd, by running a 25:23 8K, won the 2010 NCAA West Regional
championship. With the win Brainerd defended his individual title
and became Colorado College's first two-time regional champion. He
also automatically qualifies for next week's NCAA Division III
National Championship in Waverly, Iowa.
Colorado College posted a fourth-place overall team finish and
earned an at-large bid to next week's national championship meet.
Brainerd's teammates, seniors Andrew Wagner and Daniel Kraft
tallied top-20 finishes by finishing 19th and 20th
respectively.
Meanwhile, in the South Region, Centre College's Clinton Cahall
posted a top-5 finish by running a 25:04 8K to finish second
overall. Teammates John Kieffer (13th) and Sam Morgan (15) both
tallied top 15 finishes the Colonels a second place overall finish
as a team. With the second place finish, Centre automatically
advances to next week's NCAA Division III National
Championship.
Other SCAC student-athletes that posted top-20 times included Rhodes College's Chris Moore (10th), Cody Beatty (18th), Tyler Catterton (19th), Trinity University's Zach Brush (15th) and Hendrix College's Drew Kellum (12th). Moore's finish earned him an automatic bid to next week's championship meet.
Rhodes earned a third place overall team finish in the South Region and will await word of a possible at-large bid to the national championship meet. Trinity followed behind Rhodes in fourth place.
DePauw Univeristy's Noah Droddy tallied a top-10 finish at the Great Lakes regional. Droddy ran a 25:24 to earn a ninth place finish. He automatically qualifies for the national championship meet. The Tigers finished 9th out of 33 teams in a very competitive region.
