AJ MYRES
OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior
guard from The Woodlands, Texas, has been selected the SCAC
Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from
Monday, January 6th through Sunday, January 12th.
Myres averaged 22.0 points, 3.0 assists
and 2.0 steals while leading Schreiner to a 2-0 record on the
road.
Myres scored 22 points on 8-of-11
shooting including 6-of-8 from the free throw line to lead the
Mountaineers to a 73-59 win over Southwestern.
The following night against
Trinity, Myres poured in
another 22 point effort on 9-of-14 shooting including 18 points in
the secon half to lead the Mountaineers to a 65-62 come from behind
victory.
Down by one with 35 seconds
remaining, Myres came out
of no where and stripped a Trinity ballhandler and topped it off
with a breakaway lay in to give the Schreiner the lead for good
with 24 seconds remaining. He also hit two free throws to ice the
game.
Myres, shot 17-of-25 from the field (68%)
and hit clutch free throws down the stretch. The Mountaineers are
on a five game winning streak and currently sit at 7-7 including a
3-0 start in conference play.
