KYLE COOK OF
CENTRE COLLEGE, a sophomore outfielder from
Maineville, Ohio, has been named the SCAC Offensive Baseball
Player-of-the-Week for games played Monday, April 9 through Sunday,
April 15.
Cook hit .692 (9-13), scored nine runs and drove
in 10 more to help Centre go 2-2 on the week. He also walked four
times, was hit by a pitch once, stole four bases in four attempts
and hit his first three career home runs.
In Wednesday’s non-conference game against Thomas More,
Cook went 1 for 4 with two runs driven in and
stole a base.
Cook then had a monster weekend against Sewanee,
where he hit .889 (8-9) and reached base safely in 13 of his 14
plate appearances (.929 OBP). He went 3-3, including his first and
second career home runs, with three runs scored, five RBI and a
walk in game one.
Game two saw him go 2-3 with two runs scored, one RBI, two walks,
a hit by pitch and three stolen bases. He then finished the week
going three for three with four runs scored and two RBI, including
a home run and a walk in game three.
In four games, he posted a .778 on-base percentage and a 1.385
slugging percentage. Cook entered the week hitting
.263, but raised his average 80 points to .343 with his efforts
during the week and currently owns an eight-game hitting
streak.
