SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Trinity University Director of Tennis Butch Newman has announced that Andrew Cohn has been hired as the Tiger women's tennis head coach.

"I'm very excited for Trinity and the future of our women's tennis program to have someone with Andrews's proven experience taking the leadership role for our women's team," said Newman. "His successes in recruiting, on-court coaching, connecting with student-athletes, and his healthy life priorities will inspire our young women to become the very best they can be in every area of their life, thus resulting in an experience while at Trinity that will be remembered for a lifetime."

Cohn comes to the Trinity coaching staff from Haverford (Pa.) College, where he spent the last three seasons as the head coach of the Fords. Cohn led Haverford to the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association national ranking in the history of the women's tennis program.

"I'm extremely excited for this opportunity and want to thank both the search committee and leadership at Trinity for their confidence in me to take over this program," said Coach Cohn. "Trinity has an incredible legacy in tennis that I am honored to become a part of. I look forward to joining the amazing Tiger community and to working with an outstanding group of young women both on and off the court."

Cohn began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of La Verne (Ca.), pushing the team as high as #14 in the ITA Division III rankings. He then moved on to be the assistant coach at Pomona-Pitzer (Ca.) Colleges in 2013. During his four seasons at Pomona, he led the team to 32 dual-match victories as the interim head coach, and was a two-time ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year award-winner.

Cohn earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Studies from Pitzer College, where he was a four-year player with the men's tennis team. He was the captain of the team during his senior year, during which the team finished ranked eighth in the nation. Following his undergraduate studies, Cohn went on to earn his Master's in Business Administration (concentration in Accounting) from La Verne.

Trinity was 6-5 during the shortened 2020 season, which included a 6-2 mark against Division III competition. The Tigers were 13-7 overall in 2019, winning the program's eighth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and advancing to the Division III NCAA Playoffs for the 23rd time in the last 27 seasons.
